Board of Directors

Lorna Mesina-Husain. Co-founder of BKPNY, Lorna Mesina-Husain is an alumna of the University of the Philippines at Los Banos (UPLB), and as President of the UP Agribusiness Society organized the first ever Agribusiness Conference in the UPLB campus. She has had a career at the United Nations both at the NY Headquarters and in Africa, working in the fields of Information Technology and Peace Keeping Finance. Lorna graduated from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) with a Masters degree in Public Administration. She is currently taking a break to raise her family and prior to co-founding BKPNY had volunteered for NY Cares, Collaborative Opportunities for Raising Empowerment, and most recently, Mount Hope in the South Bronx. She serves as the Executive Director of BKPNY.

Frederick Quijano. Co-founder of BKPNY, Frederick was inspired to begin his community work after a recent visit to the Philippines. Once back in NY, he had a newfound sense of national pride and an obligation to help his countrymen back home. Frederick graduated from CUNY Brooklyn College where he obtained a B.A. in Television & Radio. As a student he was an active member of the campus radio station where he served as both the Urban Music Director and Promotions Director. Around the same time, he began to cultivate his passions for music and entrepreneurship. While still a student, he earned a living working in Freelance Radio Promotions, Cultural Event Production, and Artist Management. Currently he works at Competitrack, a full service advertising research firm, where he is a Reports Supervisor/ Assistant Account Manager. He is currently BKPNY's Director for Development and Outreach.

Michelle Rae Pinzon. Michelle studied dance at New York City’s LaGuardia High School of the Arts and Ballet Hispanico, graduating with a BFA degree in Dance from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She performed nationwide with the Philippine Dance Company of New York, Seventh Principle, and Seed Dance. She coordinated youth after school and summer programs in East Harlem, Flushing, Queens, and Honolulu, Hawaii, where she successfully fundraised over $300,000 for teen programs through a state government grant she wrote. In addition, Ms. Pinzon graduated cum laude from St. John’s University School of Law. She has worked for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP as a corporate associate, clerked for a New York federal judge, and is now a corporate associate at Moomjian, Waite, Wactlar & Coleman, LLP. Michelle is a member of the Board of Directors and Chairperson for another non-profit organization called the Capoeira Center of New York, Inc. She serves as BKPNY's financial and legal counsel.
