Senora De Guia Parish

BKPNY is pleased to have Senora De Guia Parish, as one of its library partners. Aside from providing them with donated books, a Concentrated Learning Enhancement (CLE) workshop was held for Prinicipal Cel XXX and about 40 teachers and community volunteers on August 2, 2009, thanks to the work of BKP Philippines volunteers.

We intend to continue to support the Senora De Guia Parish, through cooperation with Parish Priest, Father Alain Manalo, with a supply of books as they extend their reach to other needy communities in their area of Magallanes, Cavite.

More about Senora De Guia Parish

Thourgh the efforts of Magallanes' forward thinking Parish Priest, Father Alain Manalo, the Senora De Guia parochial school's library has recenty been opened for use to the Magallanescommunity at large. This means students and children from other schools and barangays now have access to the library. "Under the outreach services program of our school, we are already sharing our services to other strudents/children. The first that was opened to the public is our computer laboratory which is providing students in other schools and the out of school youth tutorials in computer literacy", Father Alain adds "This is carrying out in concrete the vision of the school which includes among others, community involvement."

The library is accessible to more than 1500 pupils , enrolled within five kilometers from the library, and will also welcome children who are not enrolled in school.

The parochial school uses the reading program sponsored by Science Research Associates of US and Canada. It is an individualized, independently applied reading program which caters to the specific needs/developmental level of each student. At present, this program is limited to SDGA students because workbooks need to be purchased. They have added Concentrated Language Encounter for use with the public library clients.

Father Alain has big plans for the school, which he started running four years ago. He plans on expanding the community computer program to an an outreach program which will involve integrated literacy and values program for Magallanes children, regardless of their school or religious affiliation.
